From what I have read in “ The Mind’s Eye”, I think that every blind person’s experiences are different. The author uses John Hull, Zoltan Torey, and Sabriye Terberken as examples, the three have a drastically different experience when it comes to their inner eyes. Sacks says that the visual cortex or the inner eye is what gives you mental pictures of what things look like in your head. To explain, a person can picture what a relative or peer looks like, without having to see them because you have seen them recently and can remember.…

Sight and Blindness in Oedipus Rex It is easy for a person that has great vision and can see clearly to be blinded by the truth. The Greek play, Oedipus the King by Sophocles is the story of Oedipus, a man who becomes the king of Thebes, while unwittingly fulfilling the prophecy of killing his father and marrying his own mother. One of the main themes in this play is blindness: physical blindness, which is lacking the sense of sight; and intellectual blindness, which is the refusal to accept knowledge. In the play, Teiresias is physically blind, but he is more knowledgeable of the truth than Oedipus. Oedipus hoping Teiresais can shed some light on the plague affecting his city says to him, “though knowest, though thy blinded eyes see naught.”(20).…

In order to see and understand the truth, one must find a way to become physically blind according to King Oedipus. One who is physically blind can see the truth, while the man with sight is blind of it. In Sophocles, Oedipus Rex, there is a recurring motif of blindness versus sight both physically and metaphorically. Throughout the play sight is used as a metaphor for truth and insight, as well as physically because multiple characters are blind. Oedipus’s blindness of the truth, due to his excess pride of himself and insight given to him by Teresias, lead to the downfall of this tragic hero.…

Dunny is, much like Boy, also incredibly narcissistic, which can be seen by the condescending tone that Dunny takes throughout the narrative, as well as in the object of the narrative itself (6) Dunny’s experiences also indicate a much more mixed view of morality than a simple binary system. He observes, rather than acts, on events such as the downfall of Leola and Boy, while placing himself in the company of morally grey characters, even befriending Lisel a representation of the devil. This all gathers together to paint the picture of someone that, while not being able to be definitively called evil, can certainly not be called good due to his morally questionable actions. He fails to save many of the characters who face crises during the book, including Leola, Boy, and eventually even Mary Dempster. Davies uses Dunny as an example of his case against the system of good and evil because even as the protagonist and main character who attempts in every possible way to convey himself as the moral good in the story, he still fails to convey this sense due to his own immoral actions and inaction as others commit immoral actions or destroy themselves around him.…
