Philemon is one of the shortest books in the Bible. It was written by the apostle Paul around 60 A.D. Paul wrote this book to Philemon who was probably a member of the Colossians Church and a follower of Jesus. Paul wrote this book to convince Philemon to forgive his runway salve, Onesimus. As Christians, we are expected to show unexpected kindness to all. However, when someone hurts us, our first defense is to 'punish' that person by our unwillingness to forgive them. In reality, our bitterness is only hurting ourselves. Unforgiveness chains our spirit and ties down our heart, and only forgiveness can set us free.
