Philbrook Essay

There is all kinds of artwork and amazing pieces that most people have never seen before. But I got the opportunity to go to and see and admire one of a kind art work, with my art appreciation class when we went to the Philbrook museum last Friday, April 7th. We got to look at the amazing architecture, sculptures, beautiful, art work, and to learn more about the museum and the history of it. When I got there my first impression of the building was that it was very beautiful and had a lot of detail.

When we were at the Philbrook I learned so much about this building. For example how that it was once someone's home, how there are 72 rooms, and how the family that lived there donated the house to the city of Tulsa. While

A few of my favorite things were first the columns in the main room because they had beautiful detail. Next, was the yarn installation by Hottea because of the colors and how you could look at each side and see something different. Also, the landscape of the gardens and how everything made a different shape, but at the same time made everything tie together. Lastly, was the ceiling in the main room because of the paintings on them and how much detail and how they told a story throughout the whole thing. A quote that stuck out to me was when Thomas Arthur Manhart said “Learning something new everyday is what life is really all about.” But overall my favorite thing was the Paul Jenkins acrylic on canvas “Phenomena Break Silk” of 1980. Jenkins was an American artist. The reason this painting sticks out to me is because of the bright colors and the contrast of the colors throughout the whole …show more content…

The art is interesting for the facts that the people who made the art pieces put a lot of dedication and time in wanting to make them look great. The first section in the exhibition is the Art and Action which is all about artifacts of how people who made them went far beyond the boundaries to make a statement through their creativeness. The next couple of sections were the Art and Knowledge and the Art and Power. The art work in the Art and power section had a couple figures that were a bit scary it was darker than any of the other sections and you just felt that the art pieces…

Due to my unpredictable work schedule I had to forgo the planned visit. I was slightly apprehensive about this, because I wanted a personal tour, which they offer on planned visits only. After signing the guest book in the front foyer of the museum, I was greeted by a young, knowledgeable volunteer who was more than happy to show me around. It was unusually slow that day so I had the volunteer’s undivided attention, as she did mine. She ushered me through answering every question and explaining each section in greater detail.…

My visit to the Nelson-Atkins museum was unlike any of my other visits to museums. First of all, I had a solid purpose for going and found myself paying much more attention to the intricacies of pieces I was viewing. Secondly, due to its sheer size, this museum had a wide variety of art from many different cultures and time periods, giving each hallway and room a different feel. Lastly, I felt much more educated about what I was viewing, when compared to previous experiences. I waited until the 8th of July to drive to Kansas City and thus had read most of content that would be covered over the semester.…

They also had outfits of Grammy winner artists such as; Brittany Howard, Gwen Stefani and LL Cool Jr from this year. As I was about to leave the third floor I was able to run into the Latin Grammy Museum where they displayed the winning Latin Artist such as Pepe Aguilar, Camila, Celia Cruz as well as some outfits and instruments. I went online and read a little about the museum and found out that it was one of the top five museums in the country because of its cultural diversity and integrated urban population. The personnel gave me a brief tour of the museum and told me the museum does not hold gallery collections, but their exhibition is based on a periodic basis. The museum was also filled with visitors and their families, all engaged in a series of photo shoots.…

The New Orleans sculpture garden is one of the most magical places I have ever been. The way that they combine art with nature totally changes your perspective on art. The atmosphere of the garden was quite informative and somewhat liberating If I can say. As soon as you enter the establishment you are greeted by the tall evergreen trees which seem to stand as tall as the sky. While approaching the entrance of the building you seem to see a peek of the closer sculptures that lie ahead.…

The painting I chose was Frank Stella’s “Flin Flon VIII”. It is an acrylic piece on canvas characterized by a mixture of curving and straight lines that interlock, vibrant colors, and an emphasis on the circle in the middle of the canvas. A huge quantity of negative space is present in the painting and the painting emits a smooth texture. The painting is one hundred and eight inches squared, making it one of the largest paintings in the San Diego Art Museum. Its size projects itself on the viewer overwhelming them with its color and size.…
