Philando Pakistan's Speech On Surviving

Decent Essays
Video of Philando Castile’s mother reaction to jury finding Minnesota police officer not guilty of second-degree manslaughter.

Lutze: What is your gut reaction to this video?

SW: I feel empathy for his mother. Her public service announcement was so powerful. I liked that she told other races, especially bi-racial parents that their children are not safe from the law. I feel that her speech will empower others, especially those who are privileged to be advocates for wrongful deaths by the justice system.

    1) I liked how she starts her story with the emotional moment of the accident, that part made me feel dizzy and disorientated like her, at the beginning it was kind of hard to interpreted the text and what was happening at the time. The parts were the police were treating her like an animal really made me mad and I felt a little bit of impotence when hearing about how they waited so long to help her and they hurt her even more. I was actually disgusted but not surprised of the way the police treated her in the hospital, it was to be expected, besides she “killed” one of their own and on top of it she was a woman of color. I admire Assata greatly in this chapter, she is so brave and has a strong will of power, if I were in her place I would have cried and begged since the first punch to the stomach. I can connect the way they treated Assata during…

During the recent Democratic National Convention, Khizr Khan, the father of the late Humayun Khan, gave a speech addressing the continued hate coming from presidential candidate, Donald Trump. Khan addresses the constant bashing of the Muslim people and other minorities, and even asks for him to “look for the words liberty and equal protection of law” in the U.S. Constitution. During his speech, Khan addressed the sacrifices his family made in a “nation where they were free to be themselves and follow their dreams.” He proceeds to argue that Trump’s family has sacrificed nothing, yet continues to bash those who have, including those of other religions and racial backgrounds. He addresses how his family embodies the American dream and how like many others, had to live with the choices they made as well as shed blood, sweat, and tears into making a life for their families.…

In the 1998 case Powell v. United States Congress, better known as the “Rodney King Beating trial”, two attorneys argued whether or not four LAPD officers used excessive force while arresting Rodney King. At the time of the arrest, the amount of crime in Los Angeles was rising. Cannon points out that, “ with a rising crime rate and a rapidly increasing multicultural population” (Cannon). With the crime rate on the rise the small LAPD staff had to enforce lean and mean mentality for their police force. The officers had some motivation that cause the excessive force used on King.…

In this news article, I will write why the Alabama governor, Robert J. Bentley, should improve life in jail for inmates using my Alabama Prison Safety Act (APSA). In Just Mercy, Bryan Stevenson described how horrible it is for an inmate to live in prison and this sparked my interest to change the way inmates are treated. I am going to propose the Alabama Prison Safety Act which will make life in a jail cell the proper, and correct way for an inmate to live in. It will only be in effect in the state of Alabama. I do not question the job done by the judges in modern time, but in the past, judges in the south were often found openly racists.…

The speech explains that he finds the world to be against each other in way, because we all do not work together. He explains that if one person was to pull the race card, then it would be hard for us to change anything. A big topic that has risen in the past year is racism. Kathleen McCarthy, President of Smith College, sent an email to her students regarding to the deaths of two boys, Eric Garner and Michael Brown. In the email, she stated that all lives matter, this caused many students to criticize her for referring to the opposition of the saying “Black Lives Matter”. Many police officers today are now being criticized and presumed guilty when approaching any black man that is in the wrong. This kind of behavior should not be happening because it is causing our law enforcement not to be able to do their jobs to the best of their abilities.…
