Philadelphia World Meeting Experience

An event that sparked a period of personal growth in my life was when I attended the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia during my sophomore year of high school. The World Meeting of Families is an event promoted by the Catholic Church every three years to celebrate and reflect on the importance of family. I was interested in the ideas of this event and decided to travel with my school to visit Philadelphia for three days. I was traveling for the first time, without my family to an unfamiliar city, accompanied by people that I did not know very well. My experience at the World Meeting of Families was not what I was expecting. I imagine that my younger self envisioned this experience to be days of sightseeing this new city and spending …show more content…
I was in a group of about fifty girls, so the goal at the subway station became to not worry if we all would ride the same train, but instead reach the same destination. Being one of the youngest in the group, I did not want to be the one left behind, so I squeezed onto the crowded train and headed into the city. As we arrived it became clear this was not going to be a glamorous city trip, especially for those who are impatient or those who do not like walking. It was during these times of waiting that I made my fondest memories of the trip. No one in the city had found the pavement of

The car ride there felt like a long eight hours. But I knew it would be worth it because I only went to Philadelphia once, and that was when I was one years old. We left Sunday to get to my grandma’s house for the week we normally stay there, but instead, my mom, my sister Sydney, my brother Jack, and I left for Philadelphia on Wednesday, August sixth.…

A significant experience that I faced, was when I tore my anterior cruciate ligament in 2015. Because of it, I had to have knee surgery and spent most of the year doing physical therapy sessions and exercising at the local track. Also, since I was away sports for so long, I learned many things about myself including that there is much more to life than what is right in front of you. Once I learned this, I became more involved in my community and church by participating in service activities and also tried harder to get involved with my school's student body. I also learned to be thankful for my friends and family because of the way that they were supportive to me.…

The busses stopped in the middle of a parking lot, so we could pick up the bagels and a new bus driver! It seemed like forever as we drove through the mountains on the way to Pennsylvania, but I had a blast! My bus passed the time by constantly singing to Journey and One Direction, as well as screaming every time we passed through a tunnel. After a couple of hours of beautiful scenery (and singing), we reached Breezewood, and it was time to eat! I enjoyed a cup of delicious chili, while updating my family back in Michigan on the trip!…
