Three things come to mind when one thinks of Nike: the three lettered quote “Just Do It” stamped in bright yellow across their t-shirts, the simple yet very recognizable swoosh symbol, and the fact that the multi billion-dollar brand advertises and represents all of the latest and greatest athletes. Rockefeller, Knight’s actions can easily be compared and contrasted to the capitalist techniques of that infamous Robber Baron. These two men shared very similar characteristics that included: ambition, risk taking, and greed. No matter if it is shoes or oil, achieving success in any industry…

The first primary source that I found was journal entries from 1917 to 1918 written by Sergeant Burton W. Knight. Sergeant Knight worked at a field hospital for the American Expeditionary Forces in France. He frequently wrote short notes about his days in the field, however, on occasion he wrote extensively about the small details of his days. Mostly, his writings consisted about what the days out in the field were like, for example, he’d note if the days were quiet and without much work. In some cases, he’d write about the work that had been done during the day such as sandbagging.…

While I read Shaq Uncut by Shaquille O’Neal with Jackie Macmullan, I was able to make connections to Shaq’s life on the basketball court, evaluate his father’s way he treated Shaquille, and question as to why Shaq became so good at the sport of basketball.…
