I’m thankful that I have the opportunity of serving with Nancy, Austin, Albert, San, Gabe and tony. Our personalities are completely different but together we make a great team. One of our officers, last semester was sitting where you are now. This semester most of our officers will graduate and some of the people who are to be inducted tonight will take the lead of our chapter.…

As a part of AC SPEAKS, I participated in a non-profit organization. For my organization I had the pleasure of working with some very kind people from the Trinity Mission Nursing Home. Me and the people I worked with helped the staff at the nursing home throw the residents a prom. We got decorations from the junior/senior prom that took place the weekend before. Along with some donations we were able to receive.…
An achievement and experience that has had a significant impact on my life is being selected as a Monthly Service Coordinator for the UAB Leadership and Service Council during my undergraduate studies. The purpose of the Leadership and Service Council is to plan and coordinate service projects for the entire UAB community as well as providing members with an opportunity to develop leadership skills. Events planned by the Leadership and Service Council include the September Service Madness, Into the Streets, Hunger Banquet, Ongoing Service, Monthly Service Projects and more. Not only was being selected for the Leadership and Service Council a great personal achievement for myself, it was also a fulfilling experience. Before college, I was heavily…
I have had various experiences in the last two years, but the one I feel is the most significant is the time I spent volunteering for the Detroit Mission Trip. This opportunity presented itself in June of 2014 through my church, Metro South Church. I spent one week, Monday through Friday, each day-all day, commuting from my home in Brownstown to the inner city of Detroit. Each day of this mission trip consisted of various volunteer jobs. I was one of approximately 100 people that engaged in the process of making life better for others.…
I Graduated from the police academy on September 7, 2001. My parents, girlfriend, and other friends came on that day to congratulate me on completing the academy. I was so proud of myself I wanted to spend the next few days relaxing before going into the field or look for a job per say. So, I took the next 2 days off. My girlfriend wasn’t too happy with my decision on taking some days off.…
In eighth grade, I decided to audition for GMEA District Honor Band. The audition itself was nerve-racking, but I made it and was able to get fourth chair. This was one of the greatest experiences of my life because I got to spend all day studying music with others who shared the same passion as I do. Last year was my first year in marching band. At the end of the year at the school's spring concert, I was awarded the Wildcat Rookie of the Year, which was a huge achievement for my.…
One accomplishment that took a great deal of effort was when I had to set up the dodgeball tournament for the Herricks International Children’s Aid Program. We were using the dodgeball tournament to raise money for Uluru, an orphanage in India. The hardest part of the tournament was communicating. From getting referee’s to getting speakers for music, communication was a huge factor in the process. To get some weight off my shoulders, I told one of the members of the club to get water jug, ice and the first aid kit.…
Underserved communities are the group of people who has been treated unequally because they have insufficient funds to cover their expenses, they have medical problems, or they have been discriminated against. According to the American Journal of Managed Care, underserved community include, “. . . [E]conomically disadvantaged, racial and ethnic minorities, the uninsured, low-income children, the elderly, the homeless, those with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and those with other chronic health conditions, including severe mental illness.” This means underserved communities are the people who are desperate for help but do not have the source to get appropriate help. Throughout my life I have encountered with underserved population a lot…
The most meaningful volunteer experience I have had is the Calf Fry Fundraiser at St. William Catholic Church in Durant, OK. This event was meaningful for a number of reasons. Although our parish is fairly small compared to some others, the calf fry is really an important fundraiser. The first calf fry was held in April of 2013. Several of our church members came up with the idea as a way to help raise money for our new Parish Hall and education building.…
Simmons World Challenge Reflection Danielle Morency I really enjoyed my experience here in Simmons World Challenge (SWC). Although it had its difficulties, SWC has been an incredibly positive experience for me. I have discovered many new aspects about myself and how I work in teams, as well as uncovered my passion for working in teams. It wasn’t perfect, but SWC was a fantastic way to start my new year.…
I remembering going through the extra credit folder a couple of months ago, and I saw the different ways you can earn some extra credit. It took me by surprised that all was community service. Volunteering is a way that people can help other each. Not only are you helping the community, but also doing something that will boost your grade up.…
This week was a challenge for me. Being halfway through the semester now, I am really starting to feel the pressure of online classes. I kind of felt that this week was way like the first two weeks to me. Things happened so fast and bounced all around that I struggled to grasp the information and had to reread pages at a time to kind of understand the material. I tried to do some things different what seemed to help me a lot through this.…
Throughout my life, I have loved helping people and being a part of something greater than myself. To be honest going into my first year of being a RA I expected extraverted students that would go to the events and community would happen naturally. That was not the case for my residents this year but I worked so hard to cater to their needs and create our own unique community. I learned a lot about myself and how to connect with residents with different perspectives of my own.…
Every week this past summer I spent eight hours volunteering in Parkview 's outpatient pharmacy. My responsibilities included: restocking over the counter medications, organizing filled prescriptions, and assisting customers with their transactions. Through volunteering I met some outstanding mentors and felt as if I really made a difference to the employee’s at Parkview and the patients they treat. Being a part of Phi Delta Chi philanthropy committee allowed me to help plan and be a part of a variety of volunteer experiences. This last year our group assisted in Boo at the Zoo and Springification.…
