The 1920s was an exceptional time to be alive the nation's wealth doubled during this time period and so did the economy. The 1920s is also known as the roaring twenties and was a great time period of social and political change of the nation. Because the economy was growing more people lived in cities rather than on farms. During this time, many things prospered such as sports, but other things didn’t do so well such as prohibition, racism, and the stock market crash. During this time period of the early 1900s, it was a great time for change and growth such as sports, effects of prohibition, problems with racism in the southern states, the dooming effects of the stock market crash. When prohibition took place in the 1920s the economy failed, causing people to lose jobs because businesses failed, organized crime also began to be a major problem in the US. Famous gangsters such as Al Capone also known as “Scarface” become a multi-million dollar operation in Chicago from; bootlegging, prostitution and gambling. When prohibition was in full effect the following year his wealth immensely grew through speakeasies, Scarface worked as a manager at Four Deuces which worked as a speakeasy, gambling joint, and a whorehouse all under one roof. He is also known for committing acts of violence onto other gang members, the most well known act was the St. Valentine's day Massacre on february 14, 1929. “Though it was never linked to Al Capone, but he was generally considered to have been responsible for the murders”
