Compare/contrast the phases of imperialism that we discussed this week in Africa, India, and Southeast Asia. In the 1800s, Western powers began expanding and growing after the Industrial Revolution. They needed more raw materials for their industries and they needed new markets to sell their products. The Western powers divided up Southeast Asia for these purposes, but also to try and convert people to their religion. The Asian people resisted colonization, but ultimately failed.
