Composers are no longer only middle aged, white men who play violin, piano and write music by hand. In today’s time, composers are producers who create music through their computer such as Pharrell Williams and Erick Arc Elliot of the Flatbush Zombies. Both of these producers repeatedly create some of the best music ever produced, and will only get better with time. The work of Pharrell is more popular than that of Erick Arc Elliot due to Pharrell’s time spent in the music industry and his involvement in mainstream media thus far, but that does not mean Erick Arc will not make exponential growth in creating his own legacy in the years to come.
Pharrell Williams, who still does not look a day over twenty, is going on forty years old, which makes him about ten years older than Erick Arc. His use of upbeat tempos, steel guitar riffs and quick hi-hats create this bright, funky, pop music for all ages to enjoy. His repetition and stability of beats are enough to enjoy, yet detailed enough to catch something different in them each time. Each producer injects a bit of themselves within each piece they create. With Pharrell, his trademark is his loops at the beginning of each song. In songs such as “Marilyn Monroe”, “Blurred Lines”, “Happy”, “Come Get It Bae” and “Frontin’”, Pharrell starts each song with a four count loop of the first beat (Miles Bowe).
