When working with sterile or dangerous pharmaceutical products, pharmacy technicians must wear gloves and masks, and also work with other special protective equipment (healthcarejobs.org). Technicians work the same hours as pharmacists work. These may include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, particularly in facilities such as hospitals and retail pharmacies that are open 24 hours a day (allhealthcare.monster.com). As a pharmacy technician’s seniority increases, they will often acquire increased control over the hours that they work. There are many opportunities for part-time work in both retail and hospital settings. Pharmacy Technicians in hospital settings often work under extremely stressful conditions. The patient load is usually really high, and it can take hours to fill patient’s prescriptions (work.chron.com). In a clinic setting, the work load is smaller, and the work is steady and not as stressful.
