Harry S. Truman once said, “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” Ever since I was young (about ages three and four) I relied on my courage, determination and imagination to overcome difficulties in a world of psychoactive medications. Specifically they were for ADD and ADHD. The meds ended up being prescribed to me until my eighth grade year, and after that they were substituted for mood stabilizing, anti-depressants, and anti-anxiety medications. The reason why I chose the career of a pharmacy technician is because with this job I can tell people exactly how and when to take their medications. The first, is that most pharmacies are open full time. The second, is that pharmaceutical technicians may have to work nights. The third, is the possibility of having to work on weekends (CollegeGrad). In addition, the working environment includes different variables. The OCO Handbook notes several different environments. The first, is that some pharmacy technicians work in hospitals, while some will work in drug stores and grocery stores. The second thing, is that most pharmaceutical technicians will spend most of their working day on their feet. And the third and final, is that the job requires doing a lot of the same things (OCO). To begin, the OCO Handbook describes several different requirements. The first, is a high school diploma, or GED. The second, is the completion of a pharmaceutical technician training program and licensing exam. The third, is simply but harshly a CLEAN CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK (OCO). Next, it is important to note where training is available in the state of Kansas. V-Tech.org gives several different locations of training here in the state of Kansas. The first, is North Central Kansas Technical College. The second, is Hutchinson Community College. The third and final location, is Johnson County Community College (V-Techs). In addition, the length and cost of the training is an important consideration. Learn.org gives several different answers. The first, is the cost for a nine-ten month course is about 2,880 dollars. The class is about 600 hours of instruction and about 200 hours of externship. The whole course will take about nine to ten months in all (Learn.org). Finally the job requires certain traits, talents and interests. Sanfordbrown.edu tells about three different traits that are good for this job. The first is, patience and compassion in working with the customers and consumers of the medications.
