This process has to be met to its full requirements in order to become a pharmacy technician. Passing the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam is required to earn the Certified Pharmacy Technician credential. Earning a high school diploma and attending a school where at least 600 hands on practical experience is taught and the PTCB exam is giving is also required. The upcoming technician is required to earn at least 10 hours of ACPE accredited technician continuing pharmacy education yearly. When dealing with the scope of practice, a pharmacy technician may assist the pharmacist by not counseling a patient, compound high-risk sterile preparations, or release a verbal prescription order for processing until it is reduced to written form and initialed by the receiving technician and supervising pharmacist. The role of a pharmacy technician is limited. There are certain activities that they are certified to do and not to do. Administering medication through tablet, capsule, or solution form is a job that they are required to do. No matter where a pharmacy technician is working, communication is an important role in the field. Being able to communicate with a patient whether it is describing their medication or having good team work with an employee, good communication is necessary. Being able to manage inventory of the medication or the supplies is also a requirement. Keeping task of what is needed in the facility helps not only the technicians and workers, but it also helps the customer. When something runs out in the pharmacy, the patient is left with either going to a different pharmacy, getting whatever is left of the medication, or as been asked to wait when the drug is available. Receiving prescriptions and being able to understand them is very important. Identifying what the pharmacist has written for a prescription is different. Sig codes are used to translate what amount and what are the directions to take for the certain medication.
