Pharmacy Teaching Philosophy

From a young age, I was instilled with the value and importance of education, as my mother is a teacher. She has taught me to pass on knowledge and teach others who need help. From the very first lecture in Pharmacy school, teaching is something I want to peruse during my pharmacy career. Passing on knowledge and molding the next generation of pharmacists is something I feel passionate about. I look forward to using many of the skills and strategies I learn during this course to effectively teach students and promote a healthy learning environment. My teaching philosophy involves providing students with real-world situations that they can relate to. Engaging their minds and showing them how the task they are about to take part in is going to help better them as pharmacists. One way to do this is by explaining to them at the start of a lesson how this is going to benefit them in the near future. Asking for input and constantly keeping students engaged helps the instructor connect with the students and helps steer the lesson to make sure main concepts are reached. Technology plays such a big part in our lives today and it can be used effectively to teach. As the world of pharmacy continues to grow students need to be taught about the resources they have access to so they can keep up with ever-changing information. Technology can be distracting to students, and students need to be reminded that any mistake we make as pharmacists could be harmful to the patient. Establishing an environment where there is mutual respect between students and teachers will lead to a better learning/ teaching
