The topic I choose for this assignment is “Study Drugs”. The two sources I used for my assignment are Motlow’s library and Gale General OneFile Database. Both of these sources I used were chosen from peer review only. Using the database inside the library and double check to make sure they were peer reviewed in order to be certain the credibility of the sources are legitimate.…

When I entered Walgreen’s pharmacy I start filling patient’s prescriptions, typed patient’s prescriptions on the computer, put medication’s vails back on the shelves, and on the front cashier. I learned how to print prescriptions when all of the patient’s prescriptions had been filled or there nothing to do. I had been told to print patient’s prescriptions to is current day that we going to dispense. It was a busy day and I heard about a patient complaint about their prescriptions is not ready and that patient had been wait for an hour. I can tell that the pharmacist manager Aaron look angry because his face is red, so I guess he took care of that patient and made his day look bad.…
Percocet is made up of both acetaminophen and oxycodone. The oxycodone is an opioid, which sinks deep into chemical receptors in the brain. That lets the brain know to take whatever pain away that the body is in, but reduces your appetite. When people abuse percocet they often have no appetite and start to become malnourished because of their poor diet. A decreased appetite may also occur as a secondary side effect due to nausea and vomiting, two common side effects of Percocet use.…
Pharmacodynamics Pharmacodynamics refers to the mechanisms of drug action. Loratadine is a “non-sedating” tricyclic anti-histamine that possesses competitive, selective, peripheral H1-receptor antagonistic activity. The onset of the anti-histaminic effect occurs 1-2 hours after the administration of the drug and the peak effect occurs between 8-12 hours. Loratadine is known as a long-acting anti-histamine as its anti-histaminic effect can persist for up to 24 hours. Histamine is produced from the amino acid histidine and is found in high concentrations within the vesicles of mast cells, enterochromaffin cells in the gut and in some neurons.…
Alot of different drugs are called opioids. Many of them are prescription used for relife of pain. Herione is also known as an opiod. The opiod drug binds it self to opiod receptor cells in the brain. When the opiod os binded to the cell it travels throught the body.…
Alcohol plays a big part in prescription drugs because the person who is taking them may not get the "high" they want to achieve a better high then the last time. Some may decide to add alcohol in the mix. Alcohol is a legal drug within its self because the more the consumer drinks, their driving ability is impaired, it is hard to walk/talk, it can make the person sad or angry. The relationship between prescription painkillers and alcohol goes hand and hand because they both give you the same effect and can even lead to death.…
AHHHH CHOO-DOEPHEDRINE Although, originally defined as the chemistry of biological structures, organic chemistry has since been redefined to refer specifically to organic (carbon based) molecules. The hydrocarbon is the very basic molecule of organic chemistry and by adding functional groups to the hydrocarbon we can manipulate the properties of the molecule. Through the manipulation of these organic compounds, organic chemistry can be used to chemically synthesise many products such as soaps, detergents, drugs, plastics and polymers. Through the process of synthesis the individual molecule can be altered numerous times to ‘iron out’ any issues found in the product to optimise its functionality. The redesign of drugs can alter the way the human body reacts to the drug possibly removing the negative side effects as well as…
Stimulants or also known as “uppers” are the opposite of depressants. These will increase your heart frequency, attentiveness, blood pressure, and energy. Stimulants were common for treating people with asthma, other repertory problems and obesity. However, since there was many cases of abuse and addiction being known with stimulants they had to decrease the medical use of them. Typically, stimulants now treat very few health issues such as ADHD and sometimes…
Polypharmacy refers to the use of a patient. The term can be used when too many forms of medication are used by a patient, more drugs are prescribed than clinically warranted, or even when all prescribed medications are clinically indicated but there are too many pills to take (pill burden). The common result of polypharmacy is increased adverse drug reactions and higher costs. This often results when people go to multiple physicians or pharmacies for their medical/medication needs, but can happen when someome only sees one doctor, as well.…

Here is an interesting fact about aspirin: one hundred billion aspirin tablets are consumed yearly on Earth. That is four hundred thousand tons of aspirin (Dodziuk, 2013). Aspirin is a very common household drug and it is very widely used in the medical industry today. Most people know this drug as a pain reliever. However, it can do many other things than just that.…
