Moreover, I also familiarized myself with some pharmacy laws and regulations like HIPPA, sign-in log, and inventory control. This internship gave me a better understanding of how retail pharmacies work as well as the duties of various positions within the pharmacy setting.

The services that the pharmacy was providing were like where I had previously worked and all the standard operating procedures were similar. However, during the placement, I could see the pharmacist’s point of view rather than a technician and how the role of the pharmacist is different from that of a pharmacy technician. The pharmacist’s role was more focused on the clinical aspect, rather than just dispensing and ordering medication. I learnt how to recruit patients who are eligible for Medicines Use Review (MUR) and New Medicines Service (NMS).…

It seems that pharmacists are slowly taking on a greater role within our health care system and I see that as a chance for a new generation of pharmacists, including myself, to put our own stamp on the type healthcare this country needs for the future. Pharmacy is one of a few professions that allows someone the opportunity to achieve many of the hopes and dreams that people of my generation have: being of service to their fellow man, somehow making a difference in the world, simply just making this world a better place for our own children. Being a pharmacist also has all of the tangible things that I want in a profession. It provides great financial stability and job availability no matter where in this world I’d want to go and it is one of the few professions that people still do for a lifetime and often work in well after…
