When deciding on what I wanted to do for a career after high school, I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field. While the thought of having to stitch an oozing, bloody wound or having to drill someone’s cavity never seamed appealing to me. Being a dentist, nurse or doctor went to the bottom on my list of career choices. I then began researching more into what types of careers were available in the medical field. Pharmacy was one that really stuck out to me. It included all of the qualities I had been looking for in a career; it was in the medical field, included no broken bones or blood and it was practiced in a sterile, safe environment. While in high school, Anatomy & Physiology and Biology were my favorite courses. I loved learning …show more content…
My experience with her was very beneficial in helping me understand the career itself and what she does on a day-to-day basis. A peer of mine had been working for Community Pharmacy as well in Newport, ME; I had asked Julie if at all possible I could also get a job working in a pharmacy for that particular company as well. Since then I have been working for Community Pharmacy for the past 4 years and have absolutely loved my job as a technician. When looking at my professional background, my job as a pharmacist technician has given me a better insight on how things work in a pharmacy and what the duties are as a retail pharmacist. I also have had the opportunity to learn drugs based on their generic and brand names, talk with insurance companies and have had the opportunity to interact with customers. When looking at my educational background, I have always strived to do my best whether that meant staying after school to get help or hiring a tutor. While in college, each semester I have managed to take more than the required amount of credits for a full-time student and still have obtained A/B grades. My determination, willingness to learn more or to seek help and, my confidence in what I am doing is right will help me achieve my goals as a pharmacist.
