In the Cantwell v. Connecticut case, Newton Cantwell and his two sons, Jesse and Russell, were convicted of two crimes that breached the Connecticut state law. The Cantwells were members of the Jehovah’s witnesses and claimed to be ordained ministers, due to their religious practices they believed that it was their duty to carry their messages to others. In order to spread their message, they carried along religious materials such as pamphlets, records, books, and also had a record player that played a recording called “Enemies”, which expressed Anti-Catholicism. So we will go back to the beginning. This was a company of people who emerged in the spiritual ferment of the English Reformation. They were subject to God, knew Him, and walked with Him personally.…

The three Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam ¬¬¬– all have one thing in common, the nature of monotheism. Judaism innovated the idea of one God about 3000 years ago, with the Israelites. Though it was restricted to the people of Israel, this was the first time a monotheistic religion came into play. Worshipping the same God of Israel, Christians were the second monotheistic believers. The teachings of Jesus Christ of Nazareth were next to become revolutionary.…

The civilization of the ancient Hebrews is one of the most fascinating to study, if only due to its longevity in the face of countless trials faced throughout history. Their imagined community, formulated by their religious practices and their devotion to scripture as the center of their beliefs, kept their culture mostly separate from others, allowing them to retain many customs and practices to which they still adhere to this day. The Book of Job in the Hebrew Bible, written circa 580-400 BC, is an excellent indicator of the importance of religious text in their society. It tells the story of a man named Job, the godliest man on earth, of whom God boasts and protects, though Satan, referred to as “the Adversary,” challenges Job’s righteousness,…

While often deemed highly similar, Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism differ greatly in many of their core values and practices. The most significant differences lie in their stances on whether or not an all-powerful god is in existence. While the Hindu faith consists of millions of gods, most Hindus focus their worship on one all-encompassing god or objective Oneness, therefore making the religion henotheistic. However, because Hinduism is so internally diverse, some groups are atheistic in their views, similarly to Jains and most Buddhists. Some Buddhists, however, do consider the Buddha as the ultimate divine being and worship buddhas and other various divinities in methods similar to those found in Hindu worship.…
I believe that the three religions should be grouped together as each seems to branch off from the previous religion. Judaism is the oldest of the three and provides a good foundation for the other two. Christianity came second as a branch of Judaism. There are talks of Jesus and Abraham in the Islam religion showing that it is also a branch off of Judaism, however it isn’t tied into Christianity as much. Each of the three religions are monotheistic, they each worship a single god, the same god so it seems.…
