Historical fiction is a genre of text which identifies the true based context of historical events. The novel Pharaoh, by Jackie French, is a perfect representation of this specific genre of writing. In this perfect example based in ancient Egypt, the protagonist Narmer conquers the land and joins the society of Egypt to one civilization. Through this, the lives of the citizens of Egypt change and sculpt around many things such as farming, trade, religion, and geography.

The very obvious difference between these two contexts is that the novel is only based on historical events due to the time difference as artifacts have remained hidden in Egypt. This means that Archaeologists cannot be 100% accurate as this was in 300BC. History is also very more detailed in its information and facts, whereas historical fiction has only sections of true events. A similarity between these two contexts is that both the PowerPoints and novel discuss the importance of the Nile in ancient Egypt. The two texts also both explain how the Nile floods every year, which meant good crops and if not it meant famine. This is shown in the beginning of the novel through the sentence ‘Hapi, god of the rivers flood, had sent his people a good flood this year’ and in the author's notes, ‘It was the only one in their world’. A difference between the text is that Pharaoh does not tell us about the preparation for the Afterlife whereas websites and PowerPoints suggest that the people of Egypt spent their entire lives preparing for the king’s death. Although there are many similarities and differences between historical fiction and history, through this presentation of historical fiction in the novel Pharaoh, French would have had to overcome the challenges of writing and presenting her novel along the lines of real historical
