My desire to be challenged academically has fueled my interest in taking more difficult courses and my determination to join the Pforzheimer Honors College. As a rising sophomore, I am looking to make a lasting impact at Pace before I graduate and have my honors courses be my foundation for my growth as a student. I have already taken one honors level course, and I was able to display that I am more than capable of handling the work that is expected from me by the professors. The coursework was demanding and my work was held to a higher standard, but I was able to exceed expectations. This demanding coursework that can only be found as a member of the honors college would be the most beneficial way for me to grow into the student I am aiming

My School district I’ve been in since halfway through kindergarten has one high school, two junior highs, a couple of middle schools and a variety of elementary schools; the fire trucks for the town have the high school mascot on the side. Small town education is different in the way that honor classes have a set of students that take them, and there is rarely a variation from this set of students in those classes. I saw that many students who did not start honors classes in junior high do not think that they can take these advanced classes, they have become viewed as “elite”. My sophomore year history teacher that year agreed with me that the view needed to be changed, so she sponsored a club we headed named “AP Ambassadors”. “AP Ambassadors”…

The Honors College at Auburn is designed to challenge the students that have showed academic excellence in their high school careers. The college should help students think more openly about the problems in today’s world, and lets face it, they are numerous. With the help of professors, the students in the Honors college should be able to pinpoint the source of a particular problem as well as the solution. I am not saying that the students will change the world with their way of thinking, but the students will be taught perspective. This type of thinking can only be mimicked in a challenging environment with people who are pushing each other to be better.…

I believe there is a more evident ambiance of respect in the Honors Program because, like the students, the professors are highly motivated. Additionally, the Honors students want to be in a more academically challenging environment and the professors want to teach these students who are hungry for knowledge. Furthermore, the smaller classroom settings are ideal for my learning process. With the smaller settings, there are less distractions and more individual attention which makes a difficult topic easier to comprehend. Also, I plan to take advantage of the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities since I have been accepted to the College of Engineering.…

I cannot refute the statement that college honors programs attract privileged and entitled students, for they do. However, those who criticize honors programs for attracting privileged students are missing the other, very important half of the equation– the disadvantaged, yet hardworking and opportunity-seeking students. The truth is, students who are attracted by college honors programs are filled with desire for knowledge and opportunities in self-improvement. They revel in challenges and continuously seek to expand their limits. Students who apply for honors programs do so with the expectation that they will meet other students who may have completely different backgrounds and experiences, but in the end will share the same passion for learning…

During my senior year at North Miami Beach Senior High School, I contemplated on where I would transfer to start my collegiate studies. I considered many different universities and colleges, weighing out the positives and negatives in attending each of them.
