He was born on June 29, 1923 in Albion, PA to the late Theofan and Anna Milnitsky. His parents originated from New Borsuk, Belarus, 30 miles north of Chernobyl, in the early 1900’s. Arriving at Ellis Island with their first born, Mark, before ultimately settling in Erie, PA as a minister for the Russian Baptist Church, while raising their four children, Mark, Mary, Paul and Peter.
Pete was a varsity-level swimmer in high school until enlisting in the Navy at the age of 18. He was trained in “radar communications” before being stationed in the Pacific on the “M.V. While at college, he met his future wife, Barbara C. Miller. They settled in Raleigh, NC before their first born, Kathleen. Pete worked in telecommunications for a TV production company before moving to Huntsville, AL. Soon thereafter, they gave birth to two children, Peter Jr. and Melanie. He continued his career in video communications and electronics for the space industry.
In early 2000 he was invited on the “Honor Flight” to Washington D.C. for his service in WWII. It was a time for great recognition and a memorable experience.
His most favored job during his 93 years was as a volunteer at the Wellness Center, Medical Mall for over 14 years where he made an abundance of friends. He was an avid sports fan and analyst for his teams. His favorites included, Alabama and Michigan State football and Gonzaga University basketball.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Barbara C. Miller of Huntsville, AL, daughter Kathleen Clark (DJ) of Mercer Island, WA, Peter Miller of Huntsville and Melanie Salzman (Scott) of Mooresville, NC.
