One organization Singer discusses is the website Charity Navigator. This website has a list of the ten charities that have the highest ratio of administrative expenses to income (82). World poverty is more than a causal topic that needs to be addressed with the respect that it warrants. In order to start making progress on the subject people first have to become motivated to do so. Firstly, philosophy contributes to the understanding of the issue, because it offers different arguments for the reason behind human actions, or lack thereof. Philosophy also can be seen as beneficial, because there are some philosophes who offer way as to battle this setback that our world faces. Peter David Singer is an Australian philosopher who claims to have suggestions that will help to bring impoverishment to an end in his pieces, The Singer Solution to World Poverty, and his Ted Talk, Peter Singer: The why and how of effective altruism.…

With so many Americans making thousands upon thousands of dollars each year, how much of that money is used to help the starving, homeless, or any charities? Peter Singer, utilitarian philosopher and author of "The Singer Solution to World Poverty" divulges in his article his solution to world poverty that would not only help all others, but also allow those donating to continue to live comfortably: they would just be living with only the necessities to live. Although Singer does use persuasion techniques effectively in his article, he relies mainly on emotional appeal. The first techniques he uses is ethos which takes place in his very first paragraph. Using an example from "Central Station," Singer tells the story of Dora, a retired school teacher, being paid one thousand dollars to bring a homeless child to an address where she is told he will be adopted.…

In 2007 Holden Karnofsky and Elie Hassenfield founded GiveWell, an nonprofit “dedicated to finding outstanding giving opportunities” for those looking to donate their money to a cause. Believing that donors should do as much good as possible by maximizing their donations, GiveWell publishes a list of charities they believe will help the most people in the moment. While giving direct aid is generally viewed as a selfless and charitable act, there are differing views on the proper way to give, or if one should give at all. This, therefore, prompts the question of what the best way to give is, or whether donors should give. In order to ensure that the money I donate contributes to the elimination of global poverty, it is important to assess how…

However, even if they share the same point of view on most points, their motivation will sometimes be different, but will be the same on other points. The main points that will be discussed to confirm my thesis will be animal care, environment and euthanasia. In order to prove my point, the essay will be divided into three parts. The first part will be about Gandhi’s point of view on animal care, environment and euthanasia, the second part will be about Peter Singer point of view on the same subjects, then the last part will consist of a comparison between Gandhi and Singer regarding their point of view on animal care, environment and euthanasia.…
