Peter Singer tells us that the problem with Don Marquis argument is that fertilized egg is continuous. He states that it is difficult to defend abortion and divides the argument between the earliest stages of life when abortion should be allowed. He lets us know in his argument that we are inclined to favor a child who can hear, see and cuddle over an unborn fetus. He argues that it is okay to abort a child that is months away from birth to a child that is already developed in the womb. He explains that quickening is the time when the mother feels the fetus move for the first time and Catholics believe this is when the fetus acquires a soul. He concludes that it would nonetheless be premature to assume that the case against abortion is okay
