Positive Psychology is seeing the good instead of the bad. Peter Parker (Sperder-man) has three positive psychology strengths and they are character strengths, resilience, and hope. Parker has such high confidence because of his strength, so this helps his self esteem. Researchers Chris Peterson and Martin Seligman did a study called Value in Action and it assess your character strengths. The study concluded that people who focused on their strengths as opposed their weaknesses were happier. As for resilience, his humor is a tactic used for blowing off stress from villains. To bounce back from stress there are two traits, “Dispositional Optimism” expecting that good things will come, Peter Parker is an Example or “Locus of Control” when one feels a lack of power/control in one’s life. Three major ways to cope with stress: Problem-focused coping (silver bullets), emotional-focused coping (invisible shields), and proactive coping (gadgets and other resources). Problem-focused coping (Silver Bullets): confront head on, rather than deny the problems generally work better when you have some control. Find a way to fix the problem, like stuck in traffic listen to an audiobook. Emotional-focused coping (invisible shields): These help us when we don’t have as much control of the problem, people may not know why your are putting up theses shields because the person is usually quiet about it, used mostly during divorce or death. You can also distract one’s self with a healthy coping method. Like exercise, work, or hobby, But Drinking, Smoking, Shopping, and food binging isn’t healthy and would cause low self-esteem issues. “Shutting down” also helps, to block out unwanted thoughts or feelings around a painful topic or trauma can be useful. Sometimes we need a “mirror” something where we can see our own “demons” by writing or talking to someone about them helps relieve the stress, and “letting it go” has been known to be one of the best ways also.
