Error 1 Perhaps the most noticeable micro-level practice error displayed in the Gabriel Myers case can be seen in the case worker’s careless effort to provide informed consent for Gabriel’s medical treatment. According to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, “In instances when clients lack the capacity to provide informed consent, social workers should protect their clients’ interests by seeking permission from an appropriate third party, informing clients consistent with the clients’ level of understanding. In such instances, the third party acts in a manner consistent with clients’ wishes and interest” (Socialworkers.org, 2008). To address certain behavioral issues related to traumatic experiences, case workers…

“Life is a drama full of tragedy and comedy,” (Walls,2005, p.129). Throughout Jeannette Walls’s memoir, The Glass Castle, the undeniable truth of the aforementioned statement is made blatantly obvious through the hardships the family faces. There are many people who believe the children should have been removed from their home due to these hardships; however, there would have been no relative, lawful, reason for their removal. The children did live in poor circumstances, but poverty is not reason enough for removal. In fact, the Walls children were able to fully overcome their struggles with poverty, and even thrived on the motivation that their childhood living conditions gave them.…

“Who would Peter Be today ?”. by Estrada , Pg.69 Base on my own experience, I believe one of the reasons why many children accept other children being bullied , and they rarely step in to help the bullied children is the feeling of being isolated and bullied back from the other kids . There are many examples in social life show this for us every day and even in movies . When a group of students bully a kid and one member in a group have a thought that is unfair and want to protect the bullied kid, then all the other members in the group will bully that student, who don’t want to bully the kid anymore, until he can’t take the pressure and comeback. The scare feeling for standing up and being different from the other kids make the children not only stay where who they are but also stand there and watch the kid being bullied.…

Many professionals, especially those in the mental health field, are required by law to report any suspected child or elder abuse. Mandated reporting is a law and anyone in the position of mandated reporting must abide by this law. However, for many, reporting does not always come easy. Flaherty (2006) states that the terms used to promote mandated reporting of child abuse in state laws vary by state but initially mean “reasonable suspicion” and, although an ambiguous term, it is purposely kept this way to promote reporting. The ambiguity of mandated reporting terms seem to be the cause of underreporting of child abuse because physicians are not able to accurately interpret the meaning of terms such as “reasonable suspicion” (Flaherty, 2006).…
