Education to a Different Level
“Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th,” a quote stated by Julie Andrews, brings the idea of perseverance and hard work will bring success as it builds a strength of never giving and hard work. Perseverance and grit should be valued more than intelligence and talent as stated by the excerpt, “The Winning Edge” by Peter Doskoch. However, American education does not educate their students about perseverance and grit which is key to success. Instead, American education rewards children with talent and does not take perseverance into consideration. In my opinion, students should be educated about grit and perseverance and should be honored for displaying these character traits as well. If students are nurtured with perseverance they learn to never give up and have the motivation to overcome obstacles that are set ahead of themselves. In fact, the excerpt, “The Winning Edge” by Peter Doskoch “...began referring to this tenacity as grit--the determination to accomplish an ambitious, long-term despite the inevitable obstacles,” (162). This significantly demonstrates the determination of a student with perseverance and grit brings students further than others without perseverance as they can surmount obstacles. It is also important to realize that perseverance or grit brings way to tenacity which intent a student to persevere to achieve and seek their ambitions.
