The floor covering industry is made up of mainly carpet, rugs, vinyl ceramic, tile, hardwood, rubber, stone, and laminate. Commercial and residential sales are the majority of the types of sales this market has. Residential sales being the largest portion, with about two thirds of the market. Carpet is the largest segment in the market with over $9 million in sales. Overall, in 2009 consumers spent around $17 billion on floor covering materials.
Sales declined around 28% in 2007. The case shows that the recession had a lot to do with these sales, and production costs. Carpet and stone segments suffered most because of the production costs being higher than normal. Although some production costs increased, others did not. The vinyl market share
