"Seeing the general in the particular," as stated by Peter Berger in 1963, is about seeing a society in an individual. My interpretation of that is, being able to see where a person came from and what they believe in based on how they behave. In society, we have many groups with different cultural ideals and practices. For example, let us put it in a smaller scale: high school. In high school we usually see several different groups of friends standing around who have all different backgrounds they came from. Some of the benefits are that, as the textbook (Marcoinis 2016) states, "laws and policies are put in place that shape our lives," as well as "personal growth and expanded awareness." To expand on the textbook, the laws and policies that are in place are different in each society based on the ideas of what those societies find right and wrong, so it can be very different from what myself and others around me would find to be acceptable or not. Those laws and policies teach people from a young age what they can and cannot do. The personal growth and expanded awareness also differ between societies. It allows me to have better connections in life because we may share experiences and common understandings. The laws and policies in place benefit me in daily life because they keep me from doing bad things that would harm or upset someone else. Those laws and policies in place also keep me relatively safe based on where in life I choose to place myself. My personal growth is something that I see that benefits me the most in daily life because I can see where I came from and what I feel needs to be improved upon to make me a better significant other, coworker, and individual in life.
