Thinking back on this day, the phone call I got from my wife is among the most surprising messages I’ve received. The kids had been begging for a dog for years, but as I have had many dogs during my childhood, I remember the heartache when they were gone. I didn’t want my young children to experience that, so I told them no time and time again. However, when I saw their faces, I had to rethink. I can’t imagine how different my life would have been if I had given a different answer. It was a fall weekend, and I went up to the school I taught at to get some work done. I was finishing up with grades and was just talking to my coworkers about the upcoming week. That’s when I got this phone call from my wife: “James, come to the PetCo on Seigan.
