People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and The American Society for the Protection of Animals (ASPCA) both advocate for similar causes. PETA advocates for animals of all species, from all over. They focus more on getting people to stop treating them unethically and killing them. The ASPCA tends to advocate mainly for domesticated animals, trying to get them adopted from shelters and into forever homes. They also advocate for other animals such as farm animals, but domesticated animals such as dogs and cats that are in places like the Humane Society of Berks County or the Animal Rescue League of Berks County are what they advertise more often.
PETA was co-founded by Ingrid Newkirk in 1980. She has helped lead PETA for more than 35 years. She has traveled internationally to help spread the word about PETA and animal rights. Under Ingrid’s leadership, legislation passed the first ever spay-and-neuter clinic in Washington D.C. She also helped to create the first anti-cruelty law in Taiwan. If I had to choose which one I think is best, I would have to choose PETA. Although their approach is harsh and controversial sometimes, it works. It makes people look at their ads and think and that is the purpose of them. Also PETA advocates more for all animals while the ASPCA is more for domesticated and farm animals. I believe that we need to be fighting more for all animal’s rights and not be picking and choosing which ones have rights. I liked that PETA had things like their video where they explained their secrets of success and why they do each of them.
