Remove dirt and debris, using clean hands to flush the wound with saline or sterile warm water.
-Cover with a bandage or dressing to protect the wound and advise owner to use either pet wound powder or cream applied twice daily until healed.
-Advise owner that if the wound increases, oozes pus, become inflamed or the dog seems to be uncomfortable then veterinary advice as soon as possible.
-Also advise the owner to change bandages frequently and to check for any swelling, discolouration, coolness, odour or saturation of the bandage. If any of these signs appear they should change the bandage and/or seek veterinary
