According to the ASPCA “It is important to realize that vaccines have saved countless lives and play a vital role in battle against infectious disease” (“Vaccinations for your Pet” 1). Many vaccines might have short minor reactions to them but vaccinating your pet can prevent them from having a long term disease illness. Dr. Ted Cohn, AVMA president states that “Unvaccinated pets are not only at risk themselves, but pose a threat to other animals, including young pets that have not yet received their full series of vaccines and thus are not fully protected” (Filippo 1). Vaccinations are required at the national, state and local levels and without these vaccinations you would not be allowed to take your animal to public places such as pet stores, boarding and education facilities. There are many different types of vaccinations and with every vaccination there are side effects your pet may show after receiving them such as lameness, vomiting, diarrhea, hives or difficulty breathing. These side effects concern pet owners when choosing to vaccinate their pet, which leads them to decide that they don't want to vaccinate because of the side effects that their pet could be exposed to. The AVMA states that “..widespread use of vaccinations within the last century has prevented death and disease in millions of animals” (“Vaccinations” 1). This proves that vaccinations for animals has saved many pets lives and has protected them from infectious diseases. “Vaccinating your pets helps to keep them safe from serious preventable diseases, while also protecting the health and well-being of these vulnerable populations” (Filippo 1). Vaccinations are critical in keeping your pets happy and safe along with others and their
