During my excursion to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, I quickly realized many of the emotional connections that humans and their canine pets share. Prior to visiting with the dogs, I made my way around the cat shelter area. After observing the cats, it became evident that their many of their “cute” behaviors were aimed solely at attracting the attention of potential human companions. For instance, a white cat named Sirocco made a distinctive pawing motion whenever I passed her cage, as if she was beckoning me to come closer and visit with her. Yet, after she had garnered my awareness, the snow colored tabby simply retreated back onto to her cardboard bed to continue her restful afternoon.…

Alfred A. Montapert has said, “Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to.” Animals have impeccable character to which that of the human race does not even begin to compare. The most courageous of the animals are by far, service animals. Service animals have and continue to enhance the quality of life for countless people.…

On the second floor of the Humane Society of North Texas in Fort Worth, Peggy Brown’s office is one of the many squared off offices. Taking a peek into her working space, you can tell it’s one of character; piles and piles of HSNT pamphlets, education material, and brochures for donors cover the floor and shelves. Photos and drawings of furry friends are pinned through the petite room while Brown, HSNT’s community outreach coordinator, is busy gathering material for upcoming events. It’s the humane society’s 111 anniversary this year and Brown has been with the organization for 13 of those celebrations. But Brown’s love for helping animals began at a young age and has since grown from there.…

Stray animals “There are about 70 million strays living in the US. Of this 70 million, only about six to eight million cats and dogs enter the nation’s 3,500 shelters every year. Nearly half of all animals that arrive in U.S. shelters are euthanized because there is a lack of space and adopters, amounting to roughly 2.7 million dead animals every year or five out of every ten dogs and seven out of every ten cats – that’s like 80,000 animals per week” (Facts about Pet Homelessness). Those statistics are something that I don’t like seeing.…
