The owner will need to determine if they feel the cancer treatment will prolong their animal’s suffering instead of helping them. The technician will need to explain to the owner that their pet will experience several changes in behavior while undergoing cancer treatment. For instance, their pet might have used to love to go on long walks at night, during cancer treatment this may change. The pet may now just want to sleep and not be interested in walking like they were before.
A diagnosis of cancer for a pet will include many things. A good technician will understand that each patient and owner is different and will do their best to help each owner understand what is going on with their animal. While a technician might not be able to help every owner, if they understand what a diagnosis of cancer involves, they will be able to better educate clients on the difficult decisions the client will be facing and hopefully help the client make the best choice for their pet’s
