She hears “In the Arms of An Angel” come onto screen. Her ears perk up. Her eyes start to mist. The sad, emaciated puppy, a little wisp of an animal with watery eyes, appears on screen. Her heart strings are being tugged. The commercial ends. She continues watching. The puppy is long forgotten.
Animals enter shelters every day without any hope of ever leaving. Most of the time they do not. Do you ever wonder what happens to the dogs or cats on the screen? Do you ever wonder if someone adopted them? Do you ever wonder if the animals are happy and loved now? Do you ever wonder how adopting a pet can benefit you?

Pet adoption can help stop these horrific statistics. Imagine a poor, helpless puppy tied down and about to get plunged with a needle that will soon lead him to his death. His sad eyes are staring blankly at the wall. Asking why did no one adopt me? Am I not good enough?
Adopting a pet saves money. Spaying or neutering pets are costly. However, if one person adopts a pet from a shelter, the cost is eliminated as the animal is already spayed or neutered. Pet adoption fees cost less than breeder fees. Buying a pet can start at $500 or even $3000, but shelter fees start at $100.
As a previous pet owner, I know the benefits of having a pet. It can boost the owner’s mood as well as the dogs. The dog, which was once sad and depressed, is now happy and lively all because he was given a good environment and a loving family. It has been shown that a pet can help physical, emotional, and psychological ailments. The owner is happier because they a lifelong companion and one more purpose in life to take care of something that also takes care of you. Having a pet also has health
