Van Daan might of been materialistic and pessimistic but most of all she is very flirtatious or alluring. For example, when Mrs. Van Daan is showing off her legs and telling Mr. Frank and Mr. Van Daan about how all the boys love them. (557) This is important because it seems like she is almost trying to make Mr. Van Daan jealous that her and Mr. Frank are “hitting it off”. Another example of Mrs. Van Daan being flirtatious is when she confesses to Mr. Frank that she wishes she had met him before she married Mr. Van Daan. (558) Mrs. Van Daan along with being flirtatious doesn’t seem like a loyal wife. She always talks about how she wants to be with Mr. Frank, or at least hints at it. Mrs. Van Daan’s flirtatious personality is not only for Mr. Frank because she worries and asks “Putti… Putti… what is it?” to Mr. Van Daan. (621) During the span of the play, Mrs.Van Daan and Mr. Van Daan call each other names in German several times, Putti and Lieffe.
In conclusion, Mrs. Van Daan is materialistic, pessimistic, and flirtatious for a variety of reasons. Peter might of been hiding in his room all the time because he doesn’t like his mom all that well. I don’t know about you but I would not want Mrs. Van Daan to be my mom
