The problem with the new Perth Stadium is that the Stadium is built on a registered contamination site. Testing in 2008 show that the site had a toxic mix of asbestos, industrial waste, cinder ash, bio solids, and acid sulphate in the soil. The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has acknowledged that the process of ‘subcharging’ will increase the water flow towards the Swan River. This has the potential to increase contaminated seepage into the river. Driving 30 metre pylons in the ground will further distribute the toxins and methane gas generated by the bio solids. This will increase the risks of contaminations finding its way into the river. In addition, the waste from the new development will inevitability find its way into the River.
