Persuasive Techniques

The two ads I will be comparing are two ads about drinks that the brand intends to sell, One of them being ‘The legend of the lemon tree’ (SOLO) and the other being ‘Add a little sparkle’ (Mount Franklin). Both of these ads are about thirst and drinks, but one of them (Mount franklin) selling water and the other (SOLO) selling a lemon soft drink. These two ads are different in the way of what type of audience they target as SOLO targets a man who is strong and well deserving whereas the Mount Franklin’s ad targets the audience of both genders but mainly women trying to get you to feel “sexy” or “like Jennifer Hawkins” when drinking the “healthier option” of Mount Franklins water. There intentions are similar as the both want you to buy the …show more content…
Persuasive techniques are used all the time in advertisements, we just don’t seem to notice them. These two ads have very similar techniques used, for example did you notice the exaggeration in these two ads? probably not because we don’t pay much attention to it, for example in the SOLO ad would the man really chase down a barrel of water, jumping to stop it go off a cliff, and what about the Mount Franklin ad where she just walks across the road into a forest in her spectacular costume just to get a drink of water. Exaggeration was everywhere in those two ads just like many other similarities. This is just one of the techniques used in both of these ads, as there are many more such as sound, logos and slogans. Persuasive techniques were not the only similarities between these two ads as there intentions where practically the same as that they both want you to purchase the product whilst thinking or feeling certain images or emotions. They also both want you, the consumer to remember the product so that when you see it you’ll buy it. As you can tell there are many similarities between both of these ads, and you might not notice them at first

In Jib Fowles’s essay “Advertising’s Fifteen Basic Appeals” he exclaims that, “Human beings, it is presumed, walk round with a variety of unfulfilled urges and motives swirling in the bottom half of their minds” (Fowles Par. 2). With this being said, advertisers appeal to their consumers through these subconscious urges. For example, in the Silverado “strong” ad, Chevy displays their Silverado truck being driven around by hard working Americans, and it also shows families together. Also, there is a song…

Advertisements have been the driving force for companies to get people to buy the product that the company is selling. For example, the “Share a Coke” Coca-Cola commercial has been one of the most successful commercials that the Coca-Cola company has made. The commercial is success because the commercial uses appeals to persuade the audience to buy their Coca-Cola sodas. Appeals have certain aspects such as credibility or proof of a certain subject, the use of logic, or emotions according to the essay, “Advertising’s Fifteen Basic Appeals” by Jib Fowles. Advertisements are all around us, they have become part of our everyday life. This makes it easier to not pay any attention to them. Since we really are not paying attention to advertisements, it makes the companies who make these ads work harder to get our attention. I have compared two advertisements, although both advertisements are not selling the same, or even similar products, I believe the way they are relaying the message is something they have in common.…

The writing expected from college courses is one that most are unfamiliar with. Although students learn basic English skills throughout grade school and up to high school, most of the advanced steps are forgotten by the time the student is to enter college. Paired with this, are the nontraditional students, who haven’t studied advanced academic language for long periods of time. Professors are expecting students of all kinds of study to have a high academic vocabulary and high writing skill. Often times a gap in remedial writing courses within the first semester or so.…

Both advertisements use direct, commanding slogans such as ‘stop animal cruelty’ (Slom, 2016) and ‘stop buying animal tested products’ (Wai, 2016) to directly address the audience, telling them exactly what to do (e.g, to stop buying products that test on animals) in order to take the most direct action against the chosen issue of the advertisements. However, only advertisement #2 utilises an open-ended rhetorical question in the slogan, ‘does your shampoo contain a hurting animal?’ (Wai, 2016), which reflects upon the viewer, consequently urging them to think of their own impact upon the issue. Additionally, both advertisements use large, bolded capital block font in order to draw attention to the slogans, which point out, as stated above, the actions the audience should take about the issue.…
