There were many logical fallacies as well as persuasive techniques included in Elle Woods’ “Speak Up” speech. She was able to reel the court in through her humorous, yet personal story. Elle Woods came before the court to make an argument. Elle felt it was wrong to use animals to test cosmetic products. Therefore, she decided to fight for “Bruiser’s Bill”. Through the duration of her speech, she added a humorous tone by using her bad haircut/salon experience as a reason to why they should pass this bill. America is blindly letting people compromise their right to speak up. Elle Woods was able to show that she was just like the people in the courtroom just by telling her story. By doing this she used the persuasive technique “Plain Folks”. Elle started off the speech with a serious tone by saying that what she is about to introduce to the court is bigger than “a single act of legislation”. She went on to say that this matter “should be of the highest importance to every American...” She ended the statement with “My hair”. The court, as well as her friends, were confused and disappointed. This statement added a humorous tone. “My hair” was not the answer that the court nor her friends …show more content…
Elle used the logical fallacy “sentimental appeal” by telling about how the hairdresser, at a hard-to-book salon, gave her a botched hairdo. At first, the members are confused as to why she would start talking about her hair when she was supposed to be addressing a serious matter. However, after she continued on with her speech they got that she was trying to say, she forgot to use her voice. The reactions Elle received showed that adding the haircut story was a vital part of her

Deanna, leggy, beautiful, and daring, came a long way from a rugged childhood and the time of liquor bottles aimed at her mother’s head. So said a Washington Post reporter in 2008, “Councilwoman Deanna Flin is a fresh face and a breath of fresh air in D.C. politics.” In the eyes of her colleagues (boozing old school boys with potty mouths and potbellies), she personified Hillary Clinton, the little engine that would, if she could, overturn the political status quo. “Too big for her britches,” said one, which struck Deanna as funny, but not in the ha-ha-ha way.…

I would definitely say that this film broadened my understanding of the great depression in a way that a lecture never could. I have learned about the great depression many times throughout my education but I never realized how desperate these people really were. Tom and his family's trip is a great example of this. It amazed me that Tom’s entire family fit in a single car and drove across the country to look for work that wasn’t even guaranteed. Then the family found out, from a man in the camp they were staying in, that the work they were seeking probably wasn’t available anymore.…
