Persuasive Summer Break

Take a Break on Summer Break Towards the conclusion of each school year students are pressed with the incoming reading and packets to complete over their summer vacation. The work that they are given sits in the back of each students’ mind as they prepare for their next year of schooling. When they should be enjoying their time off, they are stuck finishing books and math packets. On top of worrying about what their new grade will bring, students stress over completing their work in time for the next school year. In addition having work over the summer decreases student’s motivation while they are attempting to enjoy their vacation. During the school year many students stress over homework. When they would rather spend time with their friends or participate in a sport, they are stuck home completing assignments in their spare time. Summer work is just the same! Donna St. George a Washington Post writer analyzed limitations on the matter, “Students work on assignments largely without teacher support; summer work can pose grading problems in the fall; and the requirements may overwhelm already-stressed kids who need the break (St. George).” If a student is already stressing over the work that they have to complete, more questions and lack of teacher support will stress them out further. Summer assignments that are thrown upon a student in the last week of school don’t allow the student any chance for free time when they need it most- on summer vacation.
