I’m sure that some of you sitting in the audience would agree with me when I say East New York, Brooklyn has changed tremendously. There used to be a time when the streets in this neighborhood felt safe. Random shootings, robbery and rapes was nonexistent. You could send your kids outside to play feeling positive that they would return unharmed. At any time of the night, sitting on the stoops of your home enjoying the night time breeze and the sound of kids playing, having fun was a thing of enjoyment. Now being outside at night can be dangerous, it’s like we are prisoners of our own neighborhood. The people of the community was a big family, looking out for the safety of all kids even those that wasn’t theirs. You didn’t have to worry about …show more content…
Before your kids wake up for school you are already out the door and when your children return from school you are still at work. When children have too much unsupervised time on their hands bad stuff tend to happen. With the Youth Center it will offer an after school program. A place where kids can come to receive help with their homework from tutors. As well as interact with their peers. The center will also offer computer classes, sports, dance, theater and mentorship. A place like this provides your children with structure. Giving them the opportunities to develop both their social and physical skills. Creating friendships and bonds along the way. As a parent you can be at ease when your busy working or running errands knowing that your kids are off the streets, out of danger and in the hands of loving and caring people. However, cadre will come before the presence of the children and choosing the right ones is very important. The staff will be the backbone of the Youth Center. Helping to run the day to day duties that will be required to produce prosperity. Intensive background checks will be ran on all potential candidates to insure the safety this community. As well as, certain requirements to become a staff personnel will have to be met. These are, but not limited to a High School diploma, experience working with at risk kids, outstanding communication skills and computer skills.
