Even though medical science has greatly advanced thanks to animal testing, there are still social minorities who suffer from chronic diseases that take up 49.9% of society. A new type of treatment should be developed for these people who need aid, but before the medicine is allowed for people to use it should be tested to guarantee whether it is safe or not. As you can see in the examples of penicillin and insulin, animal testing is absolutely necessary. This can also be seen in the case of Edward Jenner, the scientist who developed the smallpox vaccine. He tested his new medication through injecting it on a milk-maid’s hand as well as inoculating it on his own son. The experiment did eventually succeed; however, it was from then that scientists started to suggest that animal testing would be necessary as it was made clear that testing a new type of medicine directly on a human being was extremely dangerous and risky. Nowadays, the USA and China have made it illegal for products to be sold if it has not passed animal testing. Until an alternative appears, scientists should definitely experiment on animals.
