For decades, the media has perpetuated a western ideal of femininity so narrow that almost no can live up to it.…

Prompt title: “Seeing Eye to Body: The Literal Objectification of Women” Prompt authors: Nathan A. Heflick and Jamie L. Goldenberg The main point of this article is that women are often objectified due to having their bodies sexualized. This objectification leads to women acting sort of like objects because they self-objectify themselves, meaning that they are focused on changing themselves, or how they look, instead of focusing on how they are mentally. These objectifications can be due to the way they appear physically. Due to this objectification, women are perceived as being less human, meaning that they do not have the same characteristics as people such as: warmth, capability and ethics.…

Through the decades, society has created and changed its standards for how a person “should” look, and what is considered “normal “and appealing. In today’s social regards, anyone who does not fit the mold is considered undesirable and an outcast. This remark primarily exemplifies the sexist theme of attributing a woman’s worth strictly on the basis of her physical appearance, but it also touches on the theme of depicting women in traditional gender roles. Saying that God made girls because he needed something beautiful tells society that it is acceptable for popular media to hypersexualize women (Glantz 3). This is harmful to society in many ways. One way that it is potentially harmful to society is that it encourages women to “exploit their bodies as a means of capital exchange” (Glantz 8). The hypersexualization of women also teaches women that they are “only a pretty face” and that their beauty is all that they are good for.…
