Persuasive Speech: Why College Shouldt Be Free?

In my Persuasive Speech on the topic of Why College Shouldn’t be Free? I felt like my overall speech was honestly pretty genuine and had a really good point of view on the topic that made it very relatable to the audience. If I had to narrow it down to 3 things that I needed to work on it would be: pacing back and forth, rambling and finishing my speech off better with a good conclusion. On the brighter side of things my better things that I did were: Being calm and collected throughout the speech, speaking at an appropriate volume and interacting with the class. For the sake of time and paper I will talk about one of the most important things of each side. For the worst thing that I did, I honestly believe that the thing that I need to …show more content…
At the beginning of the speech I ask the students in the class 2 quick questions that got the class to start thinking about what the speech was about and more importantly how the speech would affect them on a personal level. I think doing so definitely I believe that this hooked the class from the beginning of the speech and eventually during the speech I received a lot of reactions to what I said that made the class nod yes or no to the things that I said that they might have agreed with or not. While doing this the class made me feel like they were getting what I was saying even though they might not be agreeing with what I was saying. This made me keep going and more importantly made me get increasingly calmer during my …show more content…
With what the topic was about it would come to mind that it would definitely be easy to make this kind of topic relatable to a bunch of college students, but to be honest it was actually kind of difficult. The reason why it was difficult was because I wanted to come up with an argument that made the class feel like I can see what this guy is coming from. One excerpt that did this was when I talked about the free college tuition in Norway and how it wasn’t working there and the same problems we are having there with tuition is happening in a country with free tuition. I remember at the time that I said this the class looked me with a look that they have never heard of that in which I believe at that moment I made a lot of the kids of the class convinced in what I was talking about. This made me feel like that my overall speech at that moment turned out for the better because it was all worth

Recently my two classmates have shared their opinions on two speeches titled Gay marriage in America and Georgia tech freshman convocation speech. My first classmate has given preference to the second speech. It seems that he is more inclined to Shelby as a person with charisma who is capable to attract attention but not to the content of his speech. Thus, Shelby, as a college student (ethos), tells very emotionally about the major things which every student of his college must know. He actively uses tone and gestures to express his thoughts and make the audience believe what he says.…

Should College Be Free in America? Every year in America, thousands of new high school graduates pack their bags, move to new cities, and sign papers accepting loans they might not be able to pay back. Parents shovel out thousands to colleges, with the risk of their child neglecting the responsibility of study, and dropping their courses. Students who do not qualify for scholarships have to use up time that would allow them to study properly because they need to get part-time jobs in order to just stay in college. In other countries all over the world, tuition for college is free.…

Free college: salvation of our nation, or a detrimental endeavor with misguided focus? Following Obama’s announcement on September 9th 2015, college tuition has become a new hot topic and opinions are pouring in from many perspectives. Free college is the terminology used to describe a higher education system where students do not pay tuition; other costs of living, transportation, books and materials are not necessarily included in the “free” descriptor. Michael J. Petrilli, president of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute and research fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, takes a firm stance against free college in his article, ‘Free Tuition is a Needless Windfall for Affluent Voters and State Institutions’. Why College Should be Free for Everyone One of the things people think of when they think about college is the cost of attending. Many people I know, peers and parents alike, are going or have gone to college with the intention of using loans to attain the ultimate goal, their degree. You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…
