Introduction Australia is a ‘receiving’ country and bears the responsibility as an international citizen to take in asylum seekers. The Parliament of Australia defines asylum-seekers as “individuals who have sought international protection and whose claims for refugee status have not yet been determined. Those covered [by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR)] refer to claimants whose individual applications are pending, irrespective of when they may have been lodged.” This differs from Australian Parliament’s definition of refugees. Asylum seekers have to be processed, and it must be determined if they are ‘genuine refugees.’…

When someone wishes to go to Australia, to flee persecution, they apply for protection with the Australian government. While they’re being processed for whether or not they are eligible to have asylum in Australia, they are kept in large camps called detention centres, and are called Asylum seekers. However, these detention centres are cruel and inhumane in their treatment of asylum seekers, and should absolutely not be used to hold anyone. Case in point, Don Dale detention centre, the place of the former juvenile prison, located in rural Northern Territory. This centre has recently come under fire for inhumane treatment of teenagers during riot.…
Did you know, since the year 2011 over 250,000 people have died in Syria due to the extremely dangerous conditions of the country? Americans should open their arms to these refugees and let them into our country. These people offer no threat to us, by turning them away, were encouraging the act of terrorism and it goes against our beliefs as Americans. One reason the people should let refugees in the country is that these people offer no harm to the citizens of America. There are a lot of people fleeing from their country because of the living conditions and how unsafe their home is.…
I have seen on the news that many places around the world are having terrorist attacks in countries that are allowing syrian refugees in. Fellow americans, i would like to ask you guys a question about the founding fathers of this great country. Do you guys believe that our founding fathers were 100% American? If you guys think they were, you were wrong. No one in the United States or 13 colonies, at the time were fully american. People either moved to the US in search of a better future, born into a family of immigrants, or at the least had blood from a different country.…
We call America the land of opportunity. But we are not giving enough opportunities to refugees. When we allow refugees into this country, we're not giving them enough support to bounce back from the war zone they were once living in. In 1980 we let in 207,000 refugees into our country, but those numbers have dropped ever since. In 2002 we only welcomed 27,110 refugees into our country.…
This talk was exceptionally interesting to me because the discussion did not revolve around the same old facts about immigration, but instead it demolished some common thoughts. The event started with the speakers putting three sentences up on the board. The first statement was: “The majority of immigrants in the US are Mexicans”, the second was: “Lack of US enforcement at the Mexican border is allowing illegal traffic of people in the country” and finally the third one was: “The presence of Mexican immigrants is harmful to the US society and economy”. The crowd had to say whether they thought the statement was a fact or just fiction. Some people in the audience believed that the first two were facts, but the answer to the last statement was unanimous: false.…

What is the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the term human trafficking? Recent prediction says aliens will take over Earth in 2017. In many ways this should come as no surprise. Aliens have been visiting our planet for decades, and some even believe they are future humans trying to warn us. The current state of Earth is not good, making many wonder why alien leaders even want it. After all, humans are trying to leave it all behind for Mars or the moon.…
