Imagine feeling that, being freed from a lifetime of hard labor just to be tricked into working more. That isn’t fair. They were still forced to live in terrible conditions, and those who left didn’t really have a place to go due to red lining and racism still being a common thing. Red lining mostly only happened to black families because they were considered “dangerous.” Those who left eventually found their ways to harlem or other neighborhoods.
