Persuasive Speech On Negro School

Decent Essays
Good Afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I am Paige Wacaster. Within our community we are very worried about what is going to happen if and when we integrate. At the negro school there are many negro teachers that could possibly lose their jobs due to integration. Once integration happens the negro school will lose students because they will be going to the white school. Considering that, there will be less students to teach at the negro school which means they won’t need as many teachers, and as a result of that the teachers will lose their jobs. The teachers can’t teach at the newly integrated schools, if the teachers no longer have jobs they can no longer make money to support their families. They could eventually lose their home because they

The segregation of schools brought both positive and negative impacts on the two communities, African Americans and white Americans. For the black community, this was a grand step towards attaining racial equality but came with much aggression towards these nine students, “I stood motionless, stunned by the hurtful words. I searched for something to hang on to, something familiar that would comfort me or make sense, but there was nothing. “Two, four, six, eight, we ain't gonna integrate!” (Beals, 2007, p. 35).…

Throughout Orfield’s argument evidence and logistics are featured. These facts enhance his reasoning with the audience as they provide support for his reasoning. He writes that social science research has proved that integrated classrooms provide students with “enhanced learning, higher academic achievement for minorities, higher educational and occupational aspirations” and etc. The author uses this to support the reason that integration in classroom is important.…

Could you imagine not being able to go to a specific school based on the color of your skin? Many African American children knew how that felt up until the 1960s. African Americans had just seriously started to fight back and fight for their rights, even going to the same school as the white children. When a law was passed to integrate school, all did so except for Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. In the book, Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Beals, nine African American students, including herself had to go through the experience of being in the middle of a integration feud between people who believed in equal rights and others that didn’t.…

Even when the black children did integrate the white schools, they were in the face of death everyday. The teachers didn’t do anything to help either. In the book it says, “A boy stood over me shouting insults while the teacher and the entire study hall looked on.” (Beals pg.265) This shows that the adults/teachers did not do anything to help the minorities in any way and left them to be bullied. The treatment of minorities has been very bed throughout…

Neighborhoods are even segregated, we have seen this all the time, there are neighborhoods that are only for hispanics, blacks, asian, white. Making the schools in these neighborhoods diverse but not equal. Jonathan Kozol used rhetorical strategies very well to show the reader how schools today are still segregated. The students are treated unequally because of their skin color and their race. To prove this his argument Kozol used statistics, percentages, stories from the students and teachers at low-income schools to have an emotional appeal and his own credibility.…

In “The meaning of King Holiday” Dr. King’s wife, says that MLK day should be a day of service. “What she means by that is how can others others serve after graduating and entering the “adult” world?” Well like MLK he didn't know what to do with his life after graduating and yet after his lifetime all races have equal rights. I am not saying everyone within their lifetime will make that huge of a change in the world. Even doing the little stuff will help change the world in some sort of way.…

Qualified teachers are far less likely to remain in segregated school districts. School integration is proven to help students of color graduate and advance to college, and as such dropout rates are much higher for districts with high poverty and a high minority population. For Caucasian students, diverse schools aid them in the ability to better joining the diverse, multiracial workforce. A racially integrated school district gives opportunities for students to interact with children of different backgrounds, improves critical thinking skills through the understanding of various perspectives, and reduces the tendencies in students to make stereotypes. The segregation of schools in New Jersey both deprives many children of color a proper education and impedes Caucasian students in training many necessary life…

For my midterm speech, I plan to argue my stance on racism, more specifically how I believe some of the black culture may unintentionally perpetuate racial inequality. The solution I will propose to this solution is not making the assumption that all blacks want to be associated with these racial stereotypes. I also want to propose the idea that blacks are guilty for these social norms, as are other races. This solution will hopefully lead towards acceptance on all sides of the racial spectrum. I am very interested in this topic because I believe it is one of the biggest issues we face in our society today and is addressed through many different sources.…

The Warren Court Between 1953 and 1969, the lives of many people in the United States changed drastically. This time was known as the Warren Court era, when Chief Justice Earl Warren was at the forefront of the most liberal court in American history. Without the monumental court decisions, American society would likely have taken on a much different shape than it has today. The Warren Court created a much more equal society through desegregation, separating the church and state, and expanding the rights guaranteed through the criminal justice system.…

And what requires for "being black", you must listen to booty poppin' Hip-Hop and Rap, you must know seventeen different Beyoncé songs, you have to have a bright bubblegum pink weave at all times. Jordan's, Nike and Adidas should be the only name brand things in your wardrobe. You have to have the ass, tits, curves from every inch of your body, if not you're not considered to be black.…

For this reason alone, recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers in these areas are important. The departure of large numbers of teachers leaving the profession has negative consequences for both school districts and students. The growing turnover rates may diminish the quality of teachers hired (Fall, 2010). Districts that are hard to staff, high poverty and urban, may be forced to hire substitutes or under certified teachers. Schools who serve primarily African American and Latino students were also found to have large class sizes, facilities problems, and a lack of textbooks and technology (Curtis & Wise,…

Jonathan Kozal is angry. He has every right to be angry, and so should we. I remember there was a time in history where there were laws that were in place to make sure Black and White schools remained separate. In 1896 the Supreme Court ruled that Plessy vs Ferguson, segregation of public institutions, was constitutional. After 58 long brutal years of blood, sweat, and tears the Supreme Court overturned this law in the Brown vs the Board of Education case.…
