Persuasive Speech On Mexican Immigration

This talk was exceptionally interesting to me because the discussion did not revolve around the same old facts about immigration, but instead it demolished some common thoughts. The event started with the speakers putting three sentences up on the board. The first statement was: “The majority of immigrants in the US are Mexicans”, the second was: “Lack of US enforcement at the Mexican border is allowing illegal traffic of people in the country” and finally the third one was: “The presence of Mexican immigrants is harmful to the US society and economy”. The crowd had to say whether they thought the statement was a fact or just fiction. Some people in the audience believed that the first two were facts, but the answer to the last statement was unanimous: false. All the three affirmations turned out to be false, but still some people were tricked by them being a commonplace about Mexican immigration that a lot of American citizens believe in. The three speakers effectively proved each statement wrong with current and exact facts that I was not aware of. This aspect of migration is hardly ever considered by anyone. Those who blame immigrants for “stealing their jobs”, cannot understand the profound stress migrants go through. There is a large group of people who simply assume that Mexicans, or any foreigner coming to the US, came here because they wanted to, but most of the time they didn’t want to move, they were forced to. People move because they want a better life for them and their children, they try to go where they think they are going to find more opportunities and better life
