According to the American Lung Association approximately 158,040 people in the United Sates alone will die from lung cancer in 2015 (Lung Cancer Fact Sheet). The epidemic of lung cancer death is not just isolated to the United States, roughly one million eight hundred thousand new cases (1.8million) in 2012 alone, and one million six hundred thousand (1.6million) death in 2012 alone (Lung Cancer Fact Sheet). The amount of people who die yearly of lung cancer in the United States is tremendous enough, but the amount of death around the world because of this illness is outrageous. Smocking hookah has also been proven to increase the possibility of a person developing lung cancer. According to Aljarrah, K. (2009) the use of hookah is actually more dangerous than smoking cigarette for several reasons. For one the perception hat many people have about hookah is wrong, many people believe that hookah is not as harmful as cigarette, because the smoke gets filter in the water, which is false (Aljarrah, K. 2009). The use of hookah’s can also transfer other disease, because of the use of the same mouthpiece that people share when they are smoking in a group. Another astonishing fact about hookahs is that a single puff of Hookah is equal to ten puff of a cigarette (Aljarrah, K. 2009). Lastly, according to the study hookah smoking contains “thirty-six times the amount of nicotine and higher concentrations of heavy metals” (Aljarrah, K. 2009). This means that you are getting much more nicotine with a single puff of a hookah than you would from a cigarette puff, as well as getting metal particulars into your lungs, which will increase your chances of lung cancer.
