Persuasive Speech On Lowering The Drinking Age

Let’s have fun they say… If you can serve your country, you should be able to drink they say…One drink can’t hurt they say… Easy up and have a good time they say… Once in our life time we will hear these words from people that trying to make you drink. The sad part is according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism every year over five thousand young people under the age of twenty-one die as a result from underage drinking; this includes 1,900 from death of motor vehicle crashes, 1,600 from homicides, 300 from suicide, and hundreds more from other injuries such as falls, burns, and drownings. I mean come on do you really want to support something that will only cause harm to more teenagers? I am completely against lowering the drinking age. …show more content…
So, the main thing is this people feel because they can serve and die in the military they should be allowed to drink. To serve in the military is an honor, the fact that you are willing to fight for this country and die for it is an honor. Is drinking an honor? If we lower the drinking age what positive effects will it do for this country? Sure, there will be more cases where teenagers are dying but not for this country. 4,486 soldiers died in Iraq between 2003 and 2014 but 5,000 teenagers die per year due to alcohol related injuries.
